Badgers Fall to Golden Bears

Badgers+Fall+to+Golden+Bears

The Spring Hill College men’s basketball team fell 86-76 to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foe Miles at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Monday night.

The Badgers trailed the Golden Bears 34-31 at halftime and had their best shooting from the free throw line during the half, sinking all four attempts. SHC had stronger shooting from the floor in the second half, going 17-28 from the floor and 6-12 from beyond the arc, but still were unable to produce enough of a comeback to overcome their in-state divisional conference foe.

Despite having a better night than their opponent when it came to 2nd chance points (15-4) and points in the paint (32-22), the Badgers fell at home to the Golden Bears 86-76.

Timothy Reilly led Spring Hill in scoring with 18 points while shooting a career-high eight baskets from the floor. Reilly and Steven Lyles both led SHC on the glass with five rebounds apiece. Miles’ James-Chase Ballard led the game with 23 points while his teammate, Corey Trotter, led with nine rebounds.

They Said It
Head Coach Craig Kennedy
On the game
“I mean they [Miles] shot 22 of 24 from the free throw line. They were just outstanding from the free throw line, they were clutch, they hit clutch shots when they needed to. I thought we played a much better game today than we did last month. Tim [Reilly] had a really good start for us, which was really important. Zay [Isaiah Veal] hit some huge buckets late. Obviously, missing Eli [Lenihan] out of our rotation, because he’s such a smart player, that hurts us, because Luka [Erdtmann] has been out a long time and now Lou [Erdtmann] is kind of stepping in trying to play that and he’s just coming back off his hand injury. So, our inexperience hurt us tonight, but you got to give Miles tons of credit, my gosh. 22 for 24 from the free throw line is really good and that’s the ballgame right there.”

Isaiah Veal (Point Guard, R-Sr.)
On his and his team’s performance
“Well, my performance, I wasn’t very happy with it. I had a slow first half, picked things up a little in the second half with some steals and energy plays for the team. Overall, I think I had needed to do much better to be able to win tonight. The game overall, I think everyone was on the same page and I think that’s something we need to key in on this week, so we can get ready for Saturday and win a game.”

Timothy Reilly (Center, Jr.)
On his and his team’s performance
“I think my teammates did a really good job of finding me and putting me in spots that allowed me to be successful. Also, Coach [Kennedy] with the play calls, really gave me an opportunity to succeed and I think I did that at certain points. It was a tough loss, I feel like if we execute a little better as a team on certain plays and certain situations, could’ve been a different outcome. I have no doubt that we’ll rebound and have good luck going forward.”
