The Spring Hill College men’s basketball team fell 65-46 to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) divisional foe Miles at the Knox-Windham Gymnasium on Monday night.

Eli Lenihan put the Badgers on the board first, but the Golden Bears drove ahead and took a 7-4 lead by the first break in the action. A 6-1 run pushed Miles further ahead of Spring Hill, 13-8 by the under-12 media timeout.

Spring Hill tried, but only slightly cut into the Golden Bear lead as they continued to lead 22-10 at the next break. Despite its bench tallying 15 of its 19 total points on the night in the first half, SHC trailed Miles 32-25 going into the halftime break.

Miles never looked back, pushing the pace and never turning the lead back over to the Badgers, who scored half of their points in the paint in the second half. In the end, Spring Hill fell to its divisional opponent 65-45, snapping a five-game win streak for the Badgers.

Isaiah Veal and Miles’ Alvin Miles led the game in scoring with 15 points apiece. Jayden Webley crashed the glass and led the game with a career-high eight rebounds. His eight rebounds contributed to the team’s 43, which trumped the Golden Bears’ 31.

On the game
“I had a dream the other night about these hordes of bears attacking me on my farm. I fought them off, but they were relentless. The Miles Golden Bears were relentless tonight. You knew they would bounce back like the champions they are and they did. They hit open shots. They hit tough contested shots and we couldn’t throw it in Mobile Bay. We live to fight another day though.”
