The Spring Hill College men’s basketball team earned its first 10-win season in the Craig Kennedy era with an 86-68 victory over Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foe Lane at J.F. Lane Gymnasium on Saturday.

The Badgers kept things close with Lane to start, only being down one point (10-9) by the first media timeout of the game. Isaiah Veal, Walter Peggs Jr. and Bo Barber combined to boost the SHC lead to 16-13 by the next break.

A 12-6 run led by Ashton Hawkins gave Spring Hill a nine-point (28-19) lead over the Dragons by the under-eight media timeout. The Badgers held on and extended their lead to 16 points (42-26) by halftime.

Spring Hill’s dominance continued in the second half, with the Badgers shooting 59 percent (13-22) from the floor and 50 percent (4-8) from beyond the arc. They also recorded five of their season-high eight steals during the half.

SHC never relinquished its lead to Lane in the second half and finished the 86-68 victory strong. The win marked four in a row for the Badgers and the first 10-win season under Head Coach Craig Kennedy.

Timothy Reilly led the game in scoring with 18 points and matched his career-high seven field goals made. He also crashed the glass and led the game with eight rebounds on the evening. Reilly’s three steals also marked a career-high for the junior out of Saint Petersburg, Fla.

On the game
“I am really proud of how our guys played today. Lane made several really good runs on us today and we withstood each of their salvos. Steven Lyles came off the bench and continued to show his leadership and competitiveness. Tim Reilly had a huge defensive game today. Three steals and then a huge block and dunk late in the game. We now prepare for another cold night and then head to Memphis to play a good LeMoyne-Owen team.”
