Preseason Q&A – Head Coach Dan Presel

Spring Hill College Women’s Basketball Head Coach Dan Presel sat down for a preseason Q&A ahead of his first season at the helm of the program.

How is preseason going?
“It’s been good! New everything, right? New coach – I’m new to them and they’re new to me. I think we’ve had a lot of really good days and are really excited for the season. Our whole mission is to try to get as good as we can get throughout the year. Every time you play, the game gives you information. What you’re doing well and what you need to improve. We have a good idea of who we’re going to be, who we can be and most importantly where we need to improve to be more competitive.”

Who is emerging as a leader on the team?
“We have 13 players and we need 13 leaders in our way. Leadership is organic and we all are leading every day in some way. Some people are going to be a little more vocal, some are going to lead more by example. In terms of leadership, I’m encouraging everybody to be the leader in their own way. Everybody has to bring something and if we can get everybody being as good as they can be, then we’ve lifted our entire team. The rising tide lifts all boats.”

What are some team goals for this season?
“The overarching goal is to improve and have consistent growth from day-to-day and month-to-month. We have game goals and want to play at a certain level. In terms of goals, it really is consistently improving in areas that we need to and overachieving.”

What does it mean to return to Spring Hill as an alumni and former coach?
“This place for me is really special. It gave me what I needed when I was a student and I didn’t necessarily know it at the time, it gave me the community this place can provide. Not just with your classmates and peers, but from the faculty, staff and the ability to have genuine, life-altering relationships with the people on campus. So, I feel like I know what makes this place special and what makes me excited is I get to share it with future students. I hope these kids have as great of an experience as I did.”
