The Spring Hill College men’s soccer team defeated Shorter in a Gulf South Conference match 5-1 at Library Field on Sunday.
Prior to the match, Brett Stow was honored for Senior Day. Stow took a free kick in the second minute of play that found the back of the net to open scoring. Two freshmen, Kaue Costa and Brice Screws, netted their first career goals within two minutes of each other near the end of the half. The Badgers carried a 3-0 lead into halftime for the first time this season.
Shorter scored the first goal of the second half in the 60th minute to make it a 3-1 game. An own goal by the Hawks in the 66th minute extended the Badger lead to 4-1. Stow capped off his Senior Day with an assist to Rutger Hesselink in the 73rd minute for his first career goal.
SHC took 16 shots, with seven being on target, while holding Shorter to 11. Both sides made three saves during the match. The Badgers were awarded eight corner kicks to the Hawks’ four.
