Hall+of+Fame+Highlight%3A+Joe+Imorde

Spring Hill College men’s tennis alumni Joe Imorde (’61) will be inducted into the Spring Hill College Athletic Hall of Fame in the fall.

Imorde played for the Badgers from 1958-61. He was part of the tennis revival at SHC from his freshman year. The team went 8-4 in 1958, 8-2 in 1959, 9-3 in 1960 and 11-0 in 1961. The ’61 season was highlighted by wins over Alabama, Troy, Southern Miss, and Louisiana. He holds a 29-18 career record in the No. 1 singles spot. He was a standout in doubles with teammate Bill Tordella. Imorde was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit school honor society, and “Who’s Who”, the school listing for scholarship and leadership achievement. He was also a member of Phi Kappa Theta all four years of his collegiate career. After graduation, Joe was one of three principals who started the largest class-endowed scholarship supporting SHC, The Class of ’61 Endowed Scholarship, which is now in its 19th year.

The ceremony, set for the evening of October 19 at Byrne Memorial Hall, will also feature the enshrinement of fellow Badger alumni Jeff Burg (’94), Lindsey Stuardi Weems (’00), Monica DeSilva Kelsey (’02), Tony Younger (’02), Jennifer Cunningham (’99), former Head Coach Coby Mackin (softball, 1998-2005) and the recognition of the inaugural 1998 softball team that finished 43-17. The Spring Hill College Athletic Hall of Fame has enshrined the best in Badger athletics since 1972. There have been 150 student-athletes and coaches honored in the SHC Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame members include nationally renowned sports figures such as Nick Bollettieri, who founded IMG Academy, and Dr. Ferdie Pacheco, Muhammed Ali’s fight doctor.
