The Spring Hill College court volleyball team has earned the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) title yet again after their latest victory against Kentucky State University. The Badgers proved to be triumphant against the KSU Thorobrettes on Nov. 20 with a 3-0 win.

According to the SHC Sports Information website, the team built a .292 attack percentage against KSU, who had an attack percentage of .179. The Badgers collected 61 digs and 10 service aces while winning the SIAC Championship.

Head Coach Peggy Martin says she is “very proud of our team’s performance at the SIAC Championship. We handled some adversity due to injuries and still performed well.  We have superior depth with players who are able to step in, play out of their normal positions and raise their level of play.”

Over the course of the game, junior outside hitter, Allison Weimer, had 12 kills, as did sophomore middle hitter Kassandra Fairly. Senior libero Cassidi Sterrett had 19 digs, and senior setter Emmarose Neibert handed out 46 assists. Senior opposite side hitter Sarah Senft served up three aces.

After earning the SIAC title, the Badgers now look forward to their next game in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Region Championship Tournament, where they will play against Lynn University. The team will go head to head against the Fighting Knights on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Coach Martin believes “representing the SIAC and Spring Hill College in NCAA tournament play is an honor that we are thrilled with. We will be challenged playing a very good team at Lynn University, who is ranked number one in the region, on their home court. With eight Seniors leading the way, I am confident we will be ready to play.”

Player Kassandra Fairly says “the team is really excited to go down there and play. We have a great group of girls and a great coaching staff behind us. I think if we play to our ability, we will have a good shot.”

Player Sarah Senft agrees that “our success comes from how close our team is. We care for each other on and off the court, and our team chemistry leads to our success during games. Hopefully that will carry over into our match against Lynn University!”

The Badgers have won more than 33 matches so far this season.
