The Spring Hill Badgers spent their spring break on a mission to successfully defeat seven conference opposing teams. Over the course of three days, March 29 through March 31, the badgers were up against seven teams: Fort Valley State University, Albany State University, Tuskegee University, Lane College, Clarke Atlanta University, Lemoyne- Owen College and Benedict College. The tournament was held at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center, here in Mobile, Alabama.

Spring Hill was able to end their first two games victorious. Defeating Fort Valley University seven to two and Albany State six to three in the opening matches on March 29. They began their home stand on the right track. The next day they split victories between Tuskegee and Lane College. The badgers fell to Tuskegee down three to five after the ending of the 9:00 a.m. game, but bounced back with a nine to nothing blow out of Lane College. They were later that Friday evening conquered zero to nine by Clarke Atlanta, thus ending their first two days of the tournament with a record of three wins and two losses.

The badgers entered the final day of the SIAC round up with hopes of naming the next two matches victories for Spring Hill. They seemed to easily get the better of Lemoyne-Owen with another nine to nothing victory early that Saturday morning. Their final match against Benedict did not have the same outcome. After losing their final game zero to nine, they ended with a total record of four and three.

Freshman tennis player Jasmine Agadzi commented, “I hate the fact that we were not able to secure every match as a victory, but I am proud of the way our team fought. Of course we did not play our best last week, but trust and believe that we will be back strong for the next match.” The determination in her voice could be read clearly.

Another young tennis player Omega Davison, added this to Agadazi’s remarks, “Yeah we were up against some tough competition last week, but all of the games we lost should have been ours. We are a very young team and we have been learning a lot. We will definitely be a problem in these upcoming matches,” she laughed.

The Lady Badgers will take the courts again April 6 through April 7 in Jackson, Mississippi. They will be up against Tougaloo College and Belhaven University.
