The Spring Hill College baseball team split Saturday’s conference doubleheader with Savannah State at Sims-Galle Field.
Kai St. Germaine pitched a complete game in the first contest of the day. He led the Badgers to an 11-1 run-rule victory in seven innings. SHC handed Savannah State its first loss of the season to start the series.
St. Germaine collected his third win of the season while only giving up two hits and one run across seven innings. He struck five batters out, two of which went down swinging.
Spring Hill opened scoring with two home runs from Jackson Bell and Nick Hunter (2 RBI) in the third inning. Bryce Anderson stole third and scored on an error by the catcher, tacking on a fourth unanswered run in the third.
Luke Sweeney kept the home runs going with a three-run homer into left field in the fourth inning. SHC stacked three more runs and allowed just one from Savannah State through the seventh inning. Spring Hill run-ruled the Tigers, 11-1, in seven innings to start the series.
The second game of the day went in favor of SSU, who scored 12 runs through the sixth inning of play. Anderson and Jack Taylor both brought runs home and got SHC on the board. Eli Benoit pinch hit and blasted a three-run home run in his first at-bat of the day to cut the Savannah State lead to 12-5.
A final home run from the Tigers sealed the 13-5 loss for the Badgers. The series will now be decided in a rubber match in game three on Sunday.
