The Student Government Association plays a key role in representing student concerns, organizing campus events, and serving as a bridge between students and the administration. Friday February, 27th, the SGA held their annual presidential election with a total of 302 votes. This made it one of the largest SGA elections since 2021. With a hope that this continues, newly elected president Toba Rios 27’ hopes to build momentum as he works to make the Hill “our hill.” With an initiative to improve communication and comfort on campus. Taking input from students and turning things around to make things better.
Rios hopes to keep the same drive as Walker Carlisle 26’, doing his best to follow in his footsteps. “I plan on keeping that relentless drive to help our community better,” Rios stated, “I plan on ensuring that everyone on campus feels welcomed and heard like he did.” Having a strive to continue what Carlisle has been doing, Rios is ready to step into this position and help serve his campus and community.
SGA hosts all different types of events on campus, bringing back events that we haven’t seen in years. With a mission to “fulfill the voices of the student body in the most beneficial way possible.” Rios is stepping in to help serve the students through SGA. Making the campus more comfortable and welcoming to everyone who enters.
Rios has found joy in doing service for his community and volunteering. “Service leadership is a beautiful thing that allows someone to go beyond themselves and help others,” Rios stated. With heavy motivation and support, Rios is excited for the future of the Hill. He sees SGA as a service, here to help serve not just the students on campus, but also the community around us.
Being heavily motivated by everyone around him, Rios stated, “Everyone that I get to work with inside SGA is extremely humble and working people.” By listening to students’ voices, SGA is striving to do better for the campus community and help make a change. Having the right people by his side is what is helping him do this. Rios will officially begin his term at the start of next fall and will begin working now with SGA members to plan initiatives for the upcoming year.
There are still positions to be filled for SGA. If you are interested or want to learn more about these positions, email Toba Rios of Evan Patton to see how you can get involved. You can follow SGA on Instagram (@shcsga) and Facebook (@shcsga) to stay updated!
