As the spring season unfolds, several Spring Hill College athletic programs are beginning to build momentum. From tennis and beach volleyball to baseball and softball, Badger teams have shown resilience early in the year while key players continue to lead the way.
The men’s tennis team has bounced back after opening the season 1–3 with losses to West Alabama, Troy, Mississippi College, and Delta State. During SIAC Round-Up play, the Badgers responded with dominant wins over Benedict (7–0), Tuskegee (6–1), and LeMoyne-Owen (7–0), later splitting close matches with Tuskegee and LeMoyne-Owen. Tom Gutermann, Filipe Grebentsov, and Tom Ruel continue to lead the singles lineup, while the senior English doubles pairing of Will Huckell and Luke Tucker remains a key strength.
The women’s tennis team also found momentum after early challenges. Following losses to Mississippi College and Delta State, Spring Hill secured five wins during SIAC Round-Up play in Orlando against Edward Waters, Savannah State, Benedict, Albany State, and Clark Atlanta. Claire Bosman, Emma Kotch, and Brooke Powers continue to anchor both singles and doubles play.
Spring Hill’s golf teams have faced strong early-season competition. The men recently finished 4th out of 7 teams at the Ram Spring Invite in Mobile, where Nick Kelsey and Christopher Janson tied for second individually with scores of 218. Earlier tournaments included Montevallo, the Samuel T. Dunning Invitational, the Jay Jennison Cup, and the La Tour Intercollegiate.
The women’s golf team has also shown competitive results, highlighted by a 3rd-place finish out of 8 teams at the Montevallo Invitational. Seniors Evie Graves and Molly Kirkman, along with sophomore Grace Denegri, lead the lineup, while freshman Sofia Hernandez has shown promising potential early in her collegiate career.
Beach volleyball has delivered one of the strongest starts of the spring with a 5–2 overall record. The Sandy Badgers are led by the No. 1 pair of Jaylyne Bell and Ashlyn Whiteside, supported by Hayes/Peck, Tea/Weaver, Johnson/Lane, and Casey/Huff across the remaining courts. Spring Hill earned a 3–2 win over New Orleans at the Tulane Invitational before dominating the Badger Beach Bash in Gulf Shores with four straight wins, including three 5–0 sweeps.
Meanwhile, basketball season is nearing its conclusion. The men’s team sits at 4–23 overall and 4–19 in conference play, led by sophomore Rocco Lamuno, who averages 18.1 points per game. Junior Alvin Cole, redshirt sophomore Brian Harris, and sophomore Amaan Sanni have also contributed throughout the season.
The women’s basketball team holds a 7–19 overall record and 5–18 in conference play. Senior Madison Dowling leads the team with 12.3 points per game, while sophomore Jenice Adjessom, freshman Libby Geisler, and sophomore Allison Irby have provided consistent energy on the court.
As basketball winds down, baseball and softball are gaining momentum. The baseball team stands at 7–7 overall with an impressive 5–1 conference record. Senior John Webb leads the offense with a .429 batting average, followed by junior Jatnier Torres, redshirt senior Ray Ochoa, and junior Angel Rivera.
Softball has also started conference play strongly with an 8–9 overall record and a perfect 3–0 mark in the conference.
