Badgers Sweep Doubleheader; Clinch Miles Series

Badgers+Sweep+Doubleheader%3B+Clinch+Miles+Series

The Spring Hill College softball team swept SIAC foe Miles in Sunday’s doubleheader at the Miles Softball Complex.

Emily Phillips led the Badgers (13-13, 12-0 SIAC) while going 5-for-7 on the day with five RBI and one run scored. Rycaa Hinton and Meadow Villar both homered during the second game.

Amanda Glowacki opened scoring in game one and got Spring Hill on the board in the opening frame. Miles (5-19, 2-10 SIAC) responded and took a 3-1 lead through the second inning.

SHC answered with five runs over the course of the fifth and sixth innings, highlighted by a pair of two-run RBI doubles from Taylor Pittman and Phillips. The Badgers started the series with a 6-3 win over the Golden Bears.

Emma Curry (4-2) came in relief and earned the win while not yielding any runs on two hits while striking out two batters over 3.0 innings.

Miles opened scoring in the second game by scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning. Spring Hill took the lead in the second inning with two runs.

The Golden Bears sent a home run over the center field wall to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second. Villar homered to center field the next inning and brought two runs home to boost the Badger lead to 4-2.

SHC strung together a 6-0 scoring run, highlighted by Phillips’ two-run RBI single in the fifth, through the top of the sixth inning. Miles showed life late with a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the sixth.

Hinton hit a home run to right center to start the seventh inning. Villar sealed the 13-3 victory after dropping an RBI double into center field and then scoring on a wild pitch.

Leighanna Turk (3-7) earned the win in the circle after coming in relief and giving up a single hit while sitting one batter down over 3.0 innings.
