Spring Hill Walks-Off Twice and Clinches Clark Atlanta Series

Spring+Hill+Walks-Off+Twice+and+Clinches+Clark+Atlanta+Series

The Spring Hill College baseball team walked off both games in Saturday’s conference doubleheader against Clark Atlanta at Sims-Galle Field.

Right fielder Walter Guillot shined in his debut on the field and led the Badgers to both victories. The freshman went 7-for-9 with three RBI, three runs scored and three doubles in his first collegiate games.

The Panthers (6-21, 2-14 SIAC) opened scoring in the first game with a 7-0 run through the opening two frames that was capped off by a home run to left field. Guillot got things going for the Badger response in the bottom of the second inning, which included his RBI double as the lead-off man, followed by a RBI single from Ethan Valdez.

Clark Atlanta scored in the top of the third on a wild pitch. Spring Hill answered again, this time with a 7-0 run of its own, highlighted by home runs from Eli Benoit in the fifth and Seth Williams in the ninth,  that culminated in Valdez’s walk-off RBI single that brought John Webb across the plate.

Bryce Coe (1-1) took the victory on the mound as SHC defeated Clark Atlanta 9-8 in the series opener.

Game two saw a similar start, with CAU taking an early 3-0 lead through the third inning. Guillot started the Spring Hill response again with an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice RBI from Valdez.

Guillot kept rolling in the bottom of the sixth inning when he hit an RBI double to right field and tied the game at 3-3. The Panthers put three more runs on the board and regained the 6-3 lead in the seventh inning.

Parker Serio pinch hit for the Badgers in the bottom of the seventh and got the rally started with a three-run no-doubt home run that towered the scoreboard over the left field wall. Williams would be the one to walk off the second game with an RBI single to right field.

Harun Pelja (4-1) came in relief and led Spring Hill to the series-clinching 7-6 win. He scattered three runs on five hits, one walk and struck out seven batters in 4.0 innings pitched.
