Spring Hill College men’s basketball student-athletes Walter Peggs Jr. and Isaiah Veal were both named to the SIAC Basketball All-Conference teams, the league announced Friday.

Peggs Jr. earned a spot on the first team after his electric debut season in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Jackson, Tenn., native led the SIAC in 3-pointers per game (3.15) and total 3-pointers (82) with his unique shooting technique. He also sits just outside the top-10 nationally in both statistical categories.

He was named the SIAC Player of the Week on three occasions and Newcomer of the Week once. He led Division II in 3-pointers from Dec. 4-38. He also led the Badgers in scoring with 458 total points (17.6 per game) and 144 field goals. Peggs was instrumental in key wins over Clark Atlanta, Edward Waters and LeMoyne-Owen.

Veal was selected to the second team in his final season on the court. The San Francisco, Calif., native was another scoring leader for the Badgers, leading them from the free throw line. A focal point for the team, Veal’s free throw shooting came in clutch in multiple games down the stretch to help SHC to its historic season. He was named the SIAC Player of the Week on two occassions.

He led Spring Hill with 114 free throws and a .797 percentage at the charity stripe. Veal scored the second-most points (365) on the team and averaged 15.2 a game. He was also unselfish – recording 70 assists over the course of the season.

The all-conference awards are the first for both Badgers in their careers. They also mark the third-straight season that SHC has had student-athletes named to the all-conference teams.
