Spring Hill College’s golf team secured a 10th-place finish out of 16 teams this past weekend, showing resilience and flashes of excellence across a three-day tournament marked by strong individual performances and steady improvement.
Leading the Badgers was junior Kevin Tobergte ’27, who delivered the team’s top overall finish. Tobergte tied for 16th place individually, finishing the tournament at 1-over-par. His standout second round, where he shot 2-under, was one of the team’s highlights and helped propel Spring Hill up the leaderboard.
Day 1
Spring Hill opened the tournament with a tightly packed scoring group. Nicolas Thapar ’27 led the team with a 1-over-par round, followed closely by Kevin Tobergte ’27 and Nicholas Haber ’29, who each posted rounds of 2-over. Nick Kelsey ’28 and Christopher Janson ’27 rounded out the team scoring with matching rounds of 3-over, keeping the team competitive early.
Day 2
The second day proved to be the team’s strongest, highlighted by under-par rounds from both Tobergte and Haber. Each golfer shot 2-under, tying for the best scores on the team that day. Kelsey contributed a solid 1-over round, while Thapar and Janson added scores of 4-over and 5-over, respectively.
Day 3
In the final round, Spring Hill maintained consistency despite a challenging course. Tobergte again led the team, finishing 1-over for the tournament overall. Thapar and Haber each ended at 6-over, tying for 34th place, while Kelsey finished just behind at 7-over. Janson rounded out the scoring with a total of 15-over.
One of the tournament’s highlights came from the camaraderie and competition on the course. Tobergte reflected on a meaningful personal moment from the event.
“My favorite part was getting to play against old high school friends who I played against back in Kentucky. After this tournament, I’m thinking I need to improve on my approach and short iron game.”
His performance, especially in the second round, demonstrated both skill and growth, setting a strong example for the rest of the team.
While the 10th-place finish leaves room for improvement, Spring Hill showed promise with multiple players capable of producing low rounds. With continued focus, particularly on approach shots and short iron play, as Tobergte noted, the team looks excited for the rest of the season.
