The Spring Hill College men’s tennis team captured its fifth-straight SIAC Regular Season Championship after it swept Tuskegee, 7-0, during the final day of the SIAC Round-Up II at the Copeland-Cox (Mobile) Tennis Center on Sunday.
Spring Hill (15-5, 12-0 SIAC) finished the regular season undefeated in conference play and took home its fifth regular-season conference title in a row. The Badgers stayed in peak form for the final day of the SIAC Round-Up II and swept in-state conference foe Tuskegee (10-7, 8-3 SIAC), 7-0. Philip Bosman and Matthew Pirie started off doubles play with a 6-0 sweep that set the tone for the Badgers.
Paul-Philipp Kern and Tom Gutermann clinched the doubles point for SHC with a 6-4 win on the No. 1 court. Charles Wallace and Hugo Blasco Granellcompleted the doubles sweep with their 6-4 win in the No. 2 spot.
In singles, Kern won his set 6-2, 6-0 on the No. 3 court, followed by Blasco Granell (6-0, 6-1) clinching the match for Spring Hill with his win in the No. 6 spot. Bosman (6-2, 6-3), Wallace (6-1, 6-1), Noah Eberhard (6-1, 6-2) and Gutermann (6-1, 6-2) all secured wins in singles and completed the sweep for SHC.
The Badgers moved to 20-0 all-time against Tuskegee and 12-0 this season in SIAC play. They finished the season with a perfect record in SIAC play for the second-straight season.
With the win, Spring Hill solidified its spot atop the league and earned the No. 1 seed at the 2024 Cricket SIAC Men’s Tennis Championship. The conference championship is scheduled for April 20-21 at the Peachtree City Tennis Center in Peachtree City, Ga.
