Spring break is a cherished tradition for college seniors, and for a group of us, this year’s trip to Destin, Florida, was one to remember. With graduation just around the corner, eight of my closest girlfriends and I packed our bags and rented an Airbnb, while twelve of our guy friends stayed in a place just down the road. It was our last spring break as college students, and despite the weather not cooperating, we made it unforgettable.
We arrived in Destin hoping for sunny skies and beach days, but the panhandle of Florida had other plans. The cooler weather and overcast skies kept us off the beach, but we did not let that stop us from making the most of our time. We spent afternoons hanging out by the pool at our rental house, laughing and soaking up each other’s company. It was one of those rare times where we could all slow down and just enjoy being together without worrying about assignments or responsibilities.
The evenings were the highlight of the trip as we explored Destin’s incredible restaurant scene. From seafood at The Back Porch to waterfront dining at Harbor Docks, we hopped from one fun place to the next. On multiple occasions we found ourselves at McGuire’s Irish Pub enjoying their drink deals and live irish music. There is always something special about sitting around a big table, swapping stories and laughs, and realizing that these are the moments we will hold onto long after we graduate.
As we spent time together, it struck me how much we have all grown since our early days at Spring Hill College. This trip was more than just a spring break–it felt like a celebration of all the memories we have made over the past four years. Between poolside chats, group dinners, and late-night conversations, we found ourselves laughing about everything and nothing, the kind of laughter that only happens with the people who truly know you.
Even though we did not get the picture-perfect beach days we envisioned, the trip to Destin was everything we needed it to be. It was a chance to pause, reconnect, and savor the time we have left as Spring Hill College students. As our days at Spring Hill wind down, I am grateful for the memories of this week, my friends, and for the memories we’ll carry with us wherever life takes us next.
Spring break might not have turned out exactly as planned, but sometimes the best trips are the ones that remind you it is about who you are with, not where you go. And with this group of friends we could go anywhere and have a good time.
