Spring Hill College has announced a series of academic program changes aimed at aligning course offerings with student interests and enrollment trends. In an email to students, the administration described the decision as part of a larger plan to ensure the long-term sustainability of the institution.
The review process, which began in January, was led by a committee composed of the Provost, Associate Provost, a board of trustees member, and four faculty representatives. The group conducted a comprehensive evaluation of program enrollment, costs, student outcomes, and mission alignment.
As a result, several under-enrolled programs will be phased out, while new offerings are in development to better meet student needs.
Programs being sunset include:
Chemistry (8 majors) and Biochemistry (5 majors)
History (6 majors)
Philosophy (3 majors)
Secondary Education (7 majors)
Studio Art (4 majors), including the minor
Students currently enrolled in these programs will be allowed to complete their degrees. The college has committed to working closely with affected students to develop personalized academic plans and ensure they receive support through advising services.
In addition to academic restructuring, the college confirmed that faculty reductions will occur as part of this transition. Impacted faculty members have already been notified, and the college expressed gratitude for their service and dedication to the Spring Hill community.
Students with questions or concerns are encouraged to reach out to their division chairs, the Office of the Provost, or the Center for Academic Support and Advising (CASA). Emotional and mental health support is also available through the Wellness Center.
While these decisions are challenging, Spring Hill College emphasizes that they are being made with the goal of strengthening the institution’s academic future and supporting student success for years to come.
