Spring Hill Students at Camp Grace
Before a semester of chaos, students can attend the Beginning’s Retreat, which started on August 29th this year. The Beginning’s Retreat took place at Camp Grace. The event was organized by Campus Ministry and its leaders. The event happens annually and invites everyone on campus to step away before the busy school year starts. The retreat is open to anyone interested in meeting new people and learning about each other’s faiths and shared experiences.
Beyond the activities, students reflected on the deeper meaning of this retreat. According to Caleb Sutton, who is a junior at Spring Hill, he explained, “The purpose of the retreat is for freshmen to get off of campus for a little bit.”
Abigail Krus is a senior who attends Spring Hill College and plays a major part in Campus Ministry’s events. When I asked Krus why the Beginning’s Retreat is a tradition, she stated, “It is a time for both freshmen and transfers to learn from one another.” Both Krus and Sutton shared that many students leave the retreat feeling excited about coming back in the future. They explained that the most valuable takeaways are learning how to step out of each other’s comfort zones and become more at ease with social settings.
The event came to an end on Sunday, August 31, 2025. Attending a retreat like this can help individuals grow, connect, and build more meaningful relationships with one another. For many, the retreat was not only an event that started at the start of the semester but also an event that helped build lifelong connections.
